Google CEO Sundar Pichai meets PM Modi, says looking forward to supporting India’s G20 presidency

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google parent Alphabet, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 19 and expressed his desire to “continue our strong partnership and support India’s G20 presidency.”

Pichai, who is visiting India for the annual Google for India event, also assured his support for making an open and connected internet that works for all.

Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India vision has helped to accelerate the progress we’re seeing across India, and I’m excited for India to share its experience with the world as it takes over the G20 presidency in 2023, Sundar Pichai said

Pichai wrote in a tweet, “We appreciate you having us today, PM @narendramodi. It is encouraging to observe how quickly technology is advancing under your direction. We look forward to advancing an accessible, open internet for all while supporting India’s G20 presidency and our strong partnership.”

The rate of technological change in India has been incredible, and there is still so much opportunity ahead. I’m glad I got to see it up close, and I’m already planning my next visit.

Sundar Pichai, who is visiting India, stated that the country’s pace of technological change has been extraordinary, and that Google is assisting small businesses and startups, investing in cybersecurity, providing education and skill training, and applying AI (Artificial Intelligence) in sectors such as agriculture and healthcares.

I’m here to see progress being made from our USD 10 billion, 10-year India Digitization Fund (IDF), and share new ways. We’re helping to advance India’s digital future at our Google for India event.

Pichai expressed surprise at how people are already using technology to improve their communities.

One of the local tech founders I met today has broken new ground by offering a radiation-free and non-invasive breast cancer screening tool; another developed a chatbot that helps people manage stress. During a conversation at Women Will, I was glad to hear their stories and share thoughts on how technology can expand opportunity,” he said.
